The Battle of Chippawa, fought on July 5, 1814, was part of the American invasion of Upper Canada along the Niagara River. U.S. forces under Brown, Scott, and Porter defeated a British force under Riall, demonstrating that trained American regulars could meet British professional soldiers on equal terms. Together with the subsequent Battle of Lundy's Lane, Chippawa marked a turning point in the perception of American military competence during the War of 1812.
