Battle context

The Battle of Cape Kaliakra was the final naval engagement of the Seventh Russo-Turkish War (1787–1792), fought off the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. Although neither side lost a vessel, the Ottoman fleet retreated to Istanbul following the engagement, ceding the naval initiative to Russia. The battle effectively ended Ottoman naval operations in the Black Sea theater of the war, contributing to the conditions under which the conflict concluded.
