The Battle of Caesar's Camp was a Coalition operation near Cambrai, France, in which a numerically superior force under Prince Josias of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld sought to encircle a French Republican army holding a fortified camp. The French commander Kilmaine avoided the trap by withdrawing toward Arras before the converging columns could close, denying the Coalition a decisive engagement. The result left the broader struggle for the Franco-Belgian frontier unresolved, and the engagement remained a minor skirmish within the larger campaign of the War of the First Coalition rather than a turning point in either direction.
