The Battle of Brześć Litewski took place between 14 and 17 September 1939, during the German invasion of Poland, as Wehrmacht forces under Heinz Guderian engaged Polish defenders commanded by Konstanty Plisowski. After three days of heavy fighting, German forces captured the fortress at Brześć, and the Polish garrison withdrew. The fall of the stronghold represented the reduction of a significant Polish defensive position in the east of the country, contributing to the broader collapse of organized Polish resistance during the September campaign. Polish casualties reached 1,000 during the engagement.
