The Battle of Bolimów, fought between January 14 and February 28, 1915 on the Eastern Front, was an engagement between Imperial German and Russian forces that ended inconclusively. Despite the disparity in force size — Germany fielding roughly 362,000 troops against a Russian force of over 527,000 — German casualties were considerably lower, with Russian losses approaching four times those of the German side. The battle's principal strategic function was as a preliminary operation to the Second Battle of the Masurian Lakes, suggesting it served at least in part to fix or attrite Russian forces in advance of that larger offensive.
