Overview

Battle of al-Bukayriyya was a major battle of the 1903–1907 Saudi–Rashidi War, during the Unification of Saudi Arabia campaign, fought between the ruling Rashidi dynasty and the Saudi rebels. It occurred in July 1904 at the town of Bekeriyah in the Qassim region. After Ibn Saud's victory in the Battle of Dilam, he tried to expand his power by capturing Qassim, weakening his Rashidi enemies and their Ottoman allies. The battle ended in a Saudi victory with heavy casualties on both sides.

Significance

The Battle of Bekeriyah was a major engagement in the Saudi–Rashidi War fought in the Qassim region, pitting the Rashidi forces under Abdul-Aziz bin Mitab against the Saudi forces of Abdulaziz Ibn Saud. Following his earlier victory at the Battle of Dilam, Ibn Saud moved to extend his control into Qassim, a strategically significant region whose capture would weaken both the Rashidi dynasty and their Ottoman allies. The battle ended in a Saudi victory, advancing Ibn Saud's broader campaign to consolidate power across the Arabian Peninsula. Casualties were substantial on both sides, with Rashidi losses reported between 1,900 and 2,000 against a Riyadh force that was considerably smaller, numbering around 12,000 against the Rashidi strength of 20,000. The outcome reinforced Saudi momentum in the unification campaign and eroded Rashidi influence in the Qassim region.
