The Battle of Baidoa marked a direct conventional clash between the Transitional Federal Government, backed by Ethiopian forces, and the Islamic Courts Union at a moment when the ICU was advancing on a key TFG stronghold. Baidoa held particular strategic weight as the seat of the transitional government, making its defense central to TFG survival.
