Battle context

The Battle of Aussig, fought near Aussig in northern Bohemia on 16 June 1426, was an engagement of the Fourth Crusade of the Hussite Wars, pitting a Roman Catholic crusading force of approximately 13,000 against a Hussite army of around 11,000 under Sigismund Korybut, Prokop the Great, and Jan Roháč z Dubé. The Hussite force, though numerically smaller, inflicted roughly 4,000 casualties on the crusading side under Boso of Vitzthum, a loss that represented a significant blow to the Catholic effort to suppress the Hussite movement in Bohemia. The engagement was one in a series of failed crusading expeditions against the Hussites during this period, and the scale of crusader losses at Aussig reinforced the military resilience the Hussite forces had demonstrated across successive campaigns in the wider war.
