The Battle of Amberg delivered a Habsburg victory under Archduke Charles over Jean-Baptiste Jourdan's French army of 34,000, halting a campaign that had until that point seen French advances along the Rhine. The engagement marked a turning point in the Rhine campaign of the War of the First Coalition, reversing French momentum and reasserting Habsburg operational control in the theater.
