Battle context
The Battle of Alamana was fought between Greek revolutionary forces and the Ottoman Empire on 22 April 1821, during the opening phase of the Greek War of Independence. The Greek contingent, commanded by Athanasios Diakos and Dimitrios Panourgias, was vastly outnumbered, facing an Ottoman force under Omer Vrioni that was roughly six times larger. The engagement took place early in the uprising, when Greek revolutionary capacity and coordination were still being established, making the disparity in forces particularly consequential for the local outcome.
