Battle of Agua Dulce

Battle context

The Battle of Agua Dulce Creek was a skirmish within the broader Goliad Campaign, Mexico's operational effort to retake the Texas Gulf Coast during the Texas Revolution. Mexican troops under José de Urrea ambushed a Texian party led by James Grant approximately 26 miles south of San Patricio, in territory belonging to the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. The engagement represented one of several actions through which Centralist forces sought to reassert control over the Gulf Coast region and press against Texian positions in the interior.
