The Anglo-Russian invasion of Holland was a joint expeditionary operation conducted during the War of the Second Coalition, targeting the North Holland peninsula of the Batavian Republic. The campaign pursued two distinct strategic objectives: neutralizing the Batavian fleet and triggering a popular uprising by supporters of the former stadtholder William V against the Batavian government. A British and Russian force of approximately 47,000 faced a Franco-Batavian army of around 25,000–26,000. Both sides suffered comparable casualties, roughly 10,000 on the Allied side and over 10,000 on the Franco-Batavian side. The campaign's failure to generate the expected royalist uprising and its inconclusive operational result left the Batavian Republic intact under French influence, representing a missed opportunity for the Coalition to open a second front in northwestern Europe and detach the Netherlands from the French sphere during a critical phase of the wider war.
